From world renowned music festivals to amazing agricultural events, we guarantee you’ll find an event to suit you and your family in Cumbria and The Westmorland Dales this summer!

 

Skelton Show

Named after Skelton village where the festival was originally held, Skelton Show is set to take place on Saturday 2nd July 2022 at Old Park in Hutton-In-The-Forest. Established in the late 1800s, it has grown from a small local show to one of the major Cumbrian shows in the agricultural calendar. Livestock judging competitions will feature various classes of cattle, sheep, horses, dogs, and other furry and feather creatures. Visitors can also enjoy wrestling matches, food and craft market stalls, children’s activities, and local music.

 

Penrith Agricultural Show

This year’s Penrith Agricultural Show is back with a back at Brougham Hall Farm on the 16th July 2022. Organised by the Penrith Agricultural Society and dating back to 1834, the festival aims to promote the positives of agriculture and livestock breeding in and around Penrith, as well as promoting British food and farming. There are some excellent competitions for classes of farm livestock, horses, rabbits, poultry, show jumping and more; as well as a fantastic food hall and rural crafts marquee to enjoy.

 

Kendal Calling

Keep calm at Kendal Calling from 28th – 31st July 2022 at Lowther Deer Park in the beautiful Lake District National Park. This award-winning, innovative, independent music festival brings together over 25,000 fans to enjoy 4 days of popular music; from Mumford & Sons and Blondie, to Pendulum and Dizzee Rascal, and everything in between. This year’s headliners include Supergrass, Craig David, Stereophonics, The Wombats, Bastille, and The Kooks.

 

Lake District Summer Music Festival

Held from Friday 29th July – Sunday 7th August at various venues across the Lake District, the LDSM festival brings together string quartets, jazz ensembles, solo recitals, family events and wonderful walks. This year, Vaughan Williams will play a major role in the festival, as we celebrate the 150th anniversary of his birth. This year’s headline acts include an audio-visual display from mountaineer Stephen Venables (the first Brit to climb Everest without an additional oxygen supply) and collaborations with the British Antarctic Survey.

 

Westmorland Dales Day

Dedicated to celebrating our beautiful countryside, The Westmorland Dales Day will be held on 31st July 2022, with local guided walks, crafts and food stalls, and street entertainment. This year’s focus is the anniversary of the Yorkshire Dales National Park’s expansion back in 2015, with a special Farm to Fork Roadshow from the Westmorland County Agricultural Society. You will be given the opportunity to visit the historic steam railway station at Kirkby Stephen East, as well as embarking on fascinating walks around the town.

 

Lake District Folk Weekend

Discover a jam-packed weekend of folk and fun at the Lake District Folk Weekend from 5th – 7th August 2022 in the picturesque Lakeland village of Staveley. Friday evening will see two fantastic concerts from the finest folk artists, with both an afternoon and evening concert, plus an evening ceilidh, on the Saturday. In addition, there will be plenty of café concerts, song and music sessions, folk clubs, workshops, and dance displays to enjoy that are free-to-attend throughout the weekend.

 

Appleby Agricultural Show

Established in 1841, this year’s Appleby Agricultural Show will be held on Thursday 11th August 2022 on Hanging Shaw Fields in Appleby. With a variety of classes for sheep, cattle, poultry, dogs, children’s pets, produce, vintage machinery, handicrafts and horticulture, Appleby Show offers a fun day out for all the family. Don’t miss the exciting shows in our main ring, including Cumberland & Westmorland Racing, Astral Circus, Terrier Racing, Concours D’Elegance, Eden Valley Young Farms & The Happy Hooves Vaulting Club.

 

Crosby Ravensworth Show

Next up is the 150th anniversary of the Crosby Ravensworth Agricultural Show & Vintage Rally, due to take place on Thursday 25th August at Low Bottom Field, Maulds Meaburn. Celebrating the best of local agriculture, horticulture, industrial produce, vintage vehicles, equestrian and Cumberland & Westmorland wrestling, the Crosby Ravensworth Show has remained the ideal family day out at the end of the summer holidays since 1856. Be sure to check out the fantastic Appleby Town Band who will be playing in the afternoon!

 

Dufton Show & Sheepdog Trials

Head to Dufton “Fellside Royal” Show on Saturday 27th August for a jam-packed day full of family fun and entertainment. Dating back to 1864, the event showcases the finest in local sheep and cattle, sheepdog trials, horse displays, dogs, vintage vehicles, horticulture, produce, handicrafts, children’s sports, children’s pet show and so much more. Dufton Agricultural Show is an integral part of the local Cumbrian calendar and is an event not to be missed.

 

Westmorland County Show

Rounding off the summer festival season, the Westmorland County Show is not one to be missed. Taking place on 7th and 8th September 2022 and organised by the Westmorland County Agricultural Society, over 30,000 visitors attend this major livestock show each year. There are classes for cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, alpacas, and horses; as well as interactive displays, crafty creations, and wrestling matches to discover. Or pop into the North West’s largest local food hall to sample the best artisan chocolates, cheeses, pies and more.
